New York State Youth Award:
was presented to 8th grade student Sara Cusumano on February 1, 2005 . Sara enthusiastically helped to guide our newly formed “Caring for the Community” Club as decisions were made regarding community service ideas in the school community, our local community and the global community. Locally she participated with our club in assembling food baskets for the needy with other local organizations. She also helped organize a collection from the school staff community to collect money for the local Salvation Army Soup Kitchen. She then spearheaded the drive to collect items for our soldiers overseas including, socks, stationary, hard candy, gum, cornstarch, and flea powder. When she heard that some people were writing negative and mean letters to our soldiers she encouraged students to write positive upbeat letters to our soldiers.
